Flemmings signs for USL outfit Birmingham Legion

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Simon Preston

Reggae Boy Junior Flemmings will be spending another season in the United Soccer League ()USL), having penned a one year deal with the Birmingham Legion until the end of the season.

In a release on Wednesday, the Legion said "after thoughtful consideration, we believe our club has the right culture in place to facilitate growth and provide a second chance to Junior".

In addition to Flemmings' duties on the pitch, the Legion also stated that they will put Flemmings in a training seminar with the Institute of Sport and Justice. This training is expected to be done on a weekly basis.

The 2020 Golden Boot winner also has the option to extend his deal until the end of 2022. Flemmings now joins countryman Neco Brett at the Alabama based club. Flemmings was without a club since November 30 after his contract was not renewed with Phoenix Rising FC.

Phoenix Rising officials placed Flemmings on administrative leave for the remainder of his contract with the team. He was suspended for six games by the USL for using foul and abusive language against the San Diego Loyal on September 30.

Flemmings netted 14 goals in 15 games last season, as Rising FC  made it to the USL final. Legion FC advanced to the quarter-finals of the USL playoffs last season.
