Jamaican high schools shine on opening day of 127th Penn Relays

Jamaican high schools shun brightly on Thursday's opening day of the 127th Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia including  World Under- 20 medallist Kobe Lawrence winning the boys shot put final.

On the track, STETHS with 41.32 seconds was the fastest Jamaican school to the boys 4x100, championship final

They are joined by KC 41.72, Wolmer’s 41,79, JC 41.85, St Jago 42.03 and Camperdown High also in 42.03 seconds in the final.

Meanwhile, there was controversy in the 4x800m preliminaries where Jamaica College was disqualified for using an ineligible athlete

Kingston College in 7 minutes, 54.79 and STETHS 7 minutes, 55.44 seconds, booked their spots in the  championship  final.

The 4x400m championship final will feature 4 Jamaican schools led by St Jago with a qualifying time of 3 minutes, 15.19 seconds.

STETHS 3:16.11, KC 3:17.54 and Calabar 3:17.82, also advanced to the final. All three finals will be contested on Friday

The Jamaican high school girls will also bow into action on Friday. Intermittent coverage of the Penn Relays can be heard on Hitz 92 FM.
