Purse increases for remainder of 2022 local racing calendar

Voice of URTAJ president Patrick Smellie

Horsemen at Caymanas Park will have an added incentive to look forward to for the remaining six months on the local racing calendar.

This follows a decision by the promoting company Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) to pump additional funds into the allocation for purses. The decision came after three months of negotiations.

The announcement was made at Caymanas Park on Tuesday where the post position draw was also conducted for Saturday's 96th Jamaica St Leger, the second jewel in the local Triple Crown Series over 10 furlongs for a purse of $4.5 million.

Unbeaten 1000 Guineas winner Atomica with title-chasing jockey Dane Dawkins, has drawn post position 5, while 2000 Guineas hero Blue Vinyl to be ridden once again by Raddesh Roman, will start from gate number 12.

The launch of a new event was also announced with the Clovis Cetcalfe Cup for Open Allowance runners over 7 and a half furlongs to be run on Saturday's programme as well.

Metcalfe who is the chairman of the Jamaica Racing, Commission (JRC) and the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC), has been an administrator, owner and breeder for more than 50 years.
