Betty Davis, 'Godmother of Funk', dies aged 77

Tributes are pouring in for pioneering US singer and musician Betty Davis who has died at age 77.
 
Davis died in her home in Homestead, Pennsylvania.
 
US rocker Lenny Kravitz praised her for her fashion and musical expression, while the estate of late singer Prince wrote about her influence on him.
 
Davis, who was dubbed the "Godmother of Funk", blazed a trail with her raw brand of funk and sexual lyrics that would go on to influence stars including Madonna.
 
Betty Davis was one of the first black women to get recognition for writing, arranging and producing her own albums.
