JAAA to discuss relay qualification strategy next week

Radio Jamaica Sports has been reliably informed that the executive of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) will be meeting next week to discuss alternative meets to try and secure qualification in the men's 4x100, women's 4x400 and the mixed mile relay to the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan set for September 13-21. This, after finally receiving the manager's report from last month's World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China.

The nation faces a race against time to locate meets and put together the squads in a bid to attain one of two remaining spots based on time before the qualification window closes on August 24. At least three national teams must be included in each race.

It's understood that the at least two meets in the Caribbean are being considered, the inaugural Barbados Grand Prix set for July 5, as well as the NACAC Senior Championships from August 15-17 in Nassau, Bahamas.

Only two Jamaican teams, the women's 4x100 and the men's 4x400, qualified from the World Relays for the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
