The West Indies women remain winless on their tour of England after losing the second One Day International by 143 runs on Wednesday in Leicester with the home team taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. England who won the toss and elected to bat in the day/night encounter, rattled up an imposing 366-6 in their 50 overs.
Like it was in game one, a solid platform was laid by openers Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont who recorded back to back ODI hundreds in a double century opening partnership.
Jones who was named Player of the Match for the second game running, slammed 129 off just 98 balls including 20 fours, while Beaumont weighed in with 106 off 109 deliveries with 12 fours and a six.
The two put together 202 runs for the first wicket, becoming only the second pair with two 200-plus partnerships in women's ODI cricket. Emma Lamb also got among the runs, making 55.
Aaliyah Alleyne with 2-52 and Karishma Ramharack 2-57, were the most successful bowlers for the Windies women.
Debutant Realeanna Grimmond was the only batter to get a half century, having made 53 with 4 fours and 2 sixes at the top of the order after she was thrusted into the role of opener with captain Hayley Matthews out with an aggravated shoulder injury from the first ODI and Qiana Joseph missing due to illness.
Jannillea Glasgow chipped in with 44, while Cherry-Ann Fraser made a career-best 24 and Stafanie Taylor 20, but this was not enough, as the West Indies women folded for 223 in 45.4 overs, having been made to chase 367.
Alice Capsey bagged 3-41, while there were two wickets each for Lauren Filer and Linsey Smith. The third and final ODI will be played at Taunton on Saturday starting at 5:00 am Jamaica time with England women on the brink of a complete sweep of the West Indies tour.
