Dream Weekend seeks permission to stage 'bubble event'

The organizers of popular summer party series Dream Weekend, have written to the Culture and Entertainment Ministry, seeking permission for the staging of what they say will be a 'Bubble Event.'

The request follows the recent announcement of the easing of restrictions on entertainment events for the trial period July 1 to August 11.

The proposed dates for the weekend festival are August 5 to 9, across venues in Negril.

Chairman of Dream Entertainment Kamal Bankay says among the protocols the event is committed to, are a negative COVID-19 test or vaccination for all patrons and staff, reduced venue capacity and open spaces, mandatory mask wearing, temperature checks and consistent sanitization.

As they await a response on the proposal, the Dream team is preparing to host a weekend festival in Miami Florida, for the July 4 Independence weekend celebrations, as well as another series at the end of August in Brooklyn, New York.

Founded on 2009, Dream Weekend has been a major festival taking place during Jamaica's Independence holiday, and has employed thousands of persons and generated billions in revenue.
