The St James police have ruled out foul play in the death of Bahamian R&B singer Johnny Kemp.
Mr. Kemp, 55, is believed to have drowned at a beach in the western Jamaica city of Montego Bay on Thursday. His body was found floating face down in the water about 9:50 a.m., by passersby.
"We have ruled out foul play; we have not seen any signs of violence," Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor, head of the St James Police, told RJR News.
He added that prior to his death, Mr. Kemp had been observed, by himself, "acting in not a normal way," and that persons who had arrived in Jamaica with him on a boat had agreed that "there was some issue with his behavior."
Accordingly, he said, the police did not have "anything to show taht there's anything untoward..."
Mr. Kemp was nominated for a Grammy in 1989 for his hit single "Just Got Paid".
The song was a number one hit on the U.S. Billboard R&B chart.
