Janet Jackson documentary a hit for Lifetime and A&E networks

The two-part documentary series about the 'Queen of Pop' Janet Jackson was ratings gold for Lifetime and A&E networks, securing the network's best nonfiction performance in total viewers and key demographics since Surviving R. Kelly in 2019.

More than 15.7 million Americans tuned in to the self-titled four-hour documentary, which saw Jackson travelling back to her hometown of Gary, Indiana, where her journey began.

She discussed everything including her infamous 2004 Super Bowl performance with Justin Timberlake, the controversy surrounding her late brother Michael Jackson, her strict upbringing, her failed relationships and becoming a mother later in life.

Brother Tito Jackson, Reverend Al Sharpton, Regina King, Ciara, Teyana Taylor, Missy Elliot and Whoopi Goldberg all contributed to the production.

The documentary caused Jackson to be among the trending topics on Twitter.

The Janet Jackson documentary will repeat all four hours on Friday, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
