Founding member of reggae band The Maytals, Clifton 'Jackie' Jackson, is downplaying recent reports of a looming legal battle between the estate of Frederick 'Toots' Hibbert and the remaining band members over use of the name Toots and the Maytals.
However, Jackson, who is the group's bass player, has admitted that there is a letter seeking to restrict the band from performing as 'The Maytals'.
Describing the issue as a storm in a teacup, he said the matter is in the capable hands of the band's attorney.
Since the death of Hibbert at the University Hospital of the West Indies on September 11, 2020, the band has not been on the road, but plans are in place for them to start touring soon.
Toots and the Maytals won this years Reggae Grammy for the album Got to be Tough.
At the time of the win, the group was adding the finishing touches to its latest album which is now complete.
