Agriculture Ministry to provide help to spice farmers

Agriculture, fisheries and mining minister, Floyd Green, says in order to monetise the economic opportunities in the spices industry, a plan has been developed to provide farmers with clean ginger, turmeric and pimento planting materials.

The plan involves the agriculture ministry, RADA and external partners.

Minister Green adds that financing will be provided through collaboration between farmers and agro processors as well as members of the financial sector.

Under the scheme, the processors will provide the farmers with contracts for the quantity and value of the goods provided and participating financial institutions will use the contracts as collateral for financing to farmers.
