The national airline of Canada, Air Canada has suspended flights to Jamaica and other destinations in the region .
In making the announcement on Tuesday, the airline also disclosed that 1,500 of its workers have been told that will soon be out of jobs and the cuts have become necessary due to new travel restrictions and a dramatic reduction in demand for flying.
Air Canada officials told CBC News it will temporarily reduce its unionized workforce and an undetermined number of management positions.
