Bank of Nova Scotia Jamaica has announced the closure of one of its rural branches.
Come September 21, the Highgate branch in St. Mary will cease operations.
It has been in existence for 42 years.
BNS says the closure is part of the Scotia Group’s on-going strategy to improve operational efficiency.
Customers of the Highgate branch will be advised through the mail of the options available to transact their banking business.
BNS Executive Vice President for Retail Banking, Wayne Powell, says the bank will take steps to ensure that customers experience a smooth transition to a Scotiabank branch of their choice.
The nearest Scotiabank branch to Highgate is located on Warner Street in Port Maria.
Customers will continue to have access to their accounts through several channels including online, via the Contact Centre and automated banking machines.
In the meantime, Mr. Powell says where possible, BNS will facilitate the re-deployment of staff at the Highgate branch to other areas of the Group.
The closure of the branch will bring the number of Scotiabank branches islandwide to 38.
The bank says no additional branch closures are scheduled at this time.
