Cabinet has approved a national five-year strategy to facilitate anexpansion of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector.
That's the word from Industry Minister, Anthony Hylton, who says the strategy outlines the government’s plans to boost the development of the sector, as well as diversify the types of outsourcing services Jamaica attracts.
It is predicted that BPO's will grow at an average 20 perc ent over the next four years.
According to Mr. Hylton, there are four priorities under this initiative: policy and incentive framework, labour pool enhancement, infrastructure development strategy, and market penetration.
Some aspects will be executed in tandem with the private sector.
There are currently 40 outsourcing companies in Jamaica which have created 17,000 jobs.
