The Opposition is calling for full Parliamentary debate on the divestment of state-owned sugar factories.
The call has been made by Spokesman on Agriculture, Roger Clarke.
In a statement Thursday night, Mr. Clarke said the debate has become necessary in light of the continuing controversy surrounding the divestment exercise.
According to Mr. Clarke, a debate will enable the country to be fully appraised of the true situation.
He said there are too many issues to be clarified and these cannot be dealt with by statements from Government officials or through television interviews.
The Opposition Spokesman said the future of the sugar industry is fundamental to the survival of farmers, workers, and the economy as a whole and must be afforded the highest priority.
