Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senator Aubyn Hill, says five companies have been granted licences to import cement, as the government moves to address shortages affecting the construction sector and wider economy.
The licences will allow the importation of a combined 390,000 tonnes of cement.
Under the allocations, Rockhard Cement, Tank-Weld Metals, Island Concrete, Gore Developments and The Buying House have all been given licences to import cement.
Senator Hill says the import quotas were approved following consultations with industry stakeholders and discussions within the Cabinet.
