JCSA President Techa Clarke-Griffiths
The Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) is warning of disruption if the government fails to settle the outstanding wage claim.
JCSA President Techa Clarke-Griffiths threw down the gauntlet while addressing an award ceremony for members of its Manchester chapter held at the Manchester Parish Library in Mandeville.
She says public servants deserve to be remunerated appropriately and in a timely manner.
"It had an opportunity to conclude our negotiation as a union. In addition, we have had the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions who have made an offer, a counter offer to the Government of Jamaica. We are 14 months out of the negotiating period, which means that the public servants of Jamaica [are] owed 14 months retroactive payment in salaries.
"We are demanding that they conclude the negotiations so that the members can receive their increase in salaries. So we have waited patiently and I believe that it is timely for us to put our members on notice so that we can now go out there and demonstrate why we are demanding that our salaries be paid and, of course, for us to conclude our negotiations. So the JCSA along with the Confederation would have indicated to the government that we are not going to wait any longer to have our matters addressed," she warned.
