Amputee held with illegal gun at supermarket

 
A disabled man is in police custody after he was reportedly held in possession of an illegal firearm inside the Shoppers Fair Supermarket in Kingston on Wednesday. 
 
Dean Stewart, a 41-year-old resident of Mona Commons, Kingston 6, has been charged for the offences of possession of prohibited weapon and possession of unauthorised ammunition. 
 
Investigators reported that on Wednesday about 12:30 p.m., Mr. Stewart, an amputee, was shopping inside the store located on Old Hope Road in Kingston, when he was observed with the weapon while in his wheelchair. 
 
The cops were summoned and he was held in possession of a semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing five rounds of ammunition tucked between his legs. 
 
He was taken to the Half Way Tree Police Station where he was charged. 
 
Investigators report that Stewart is well known within the community and is frequently seen in the areas soliciting money from members of the public.
