Gov't touts Chris Gayle's Rich Rum venture as boost for Brand Jamaica

Delano Seiveright, State Minister in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce

The government says the launch of cricket legend Chris Gayle's Rich Rum brand is evidence of growing confidence in Jamaica's economy and the country's ability to develop globally competitive products.

State Minister in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Delano Seiveright, says Mr. Gayle's investment in a Jamaican-owned manufacturing venture demonstrates the potential for local entrepreneurs to create premium niche products with export appeal.

Rich Rum is being developed by Triple Gold Rums, with company officials outlining plans to position the product as a premium Jamaican rum brand for export markets.

Speaking at the official launch in Kingston, Minister Seiveright highlighted Mr. Gayle's international profile and massive social media following, which he said provide valuable global exposure for Jamaican brands.

"The easier thing would have been to endorse somebody else's product, but instead you're building your own Jamaican enterprise. So I say this often, Jamaica cannot only export talent. We must export brands. We already have strong examples," said Mr. Seiveright.

The State Minister pointed to Jamaica's economic indicators which, he argued, are helping to attract increased private sector investment across several industries.

Mr. Seiveright cited continued investment in tourism, manufacturing and commercial developments, saying Jamaica is well positioned to benefit from glowing global demand for authentic Jamaican products.

The minister encouraged more entrepreneurs to transform Jamaica's international reputation into successful locally owned brands with global reach.
