Housing Agency of Jamaica fires senior managers

The board of the Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ) has sacked a number of its senior managers.

The board has dismissed, with immediate effect, the Managing Director, the Director of Technical Services, senior managers with responsibility for Construction, Finance and Information and Legal Service/Company Secretary.

Senior Manager for Sales and Services, Gary Howell has been appointed as Acting Managing Director in the interim. All other vacant positions are to be filled by persons already employed at the HAJ.

The agency which was established to provide low income housing solutions, reported losses of over J$2 billion in the last three years. The board says two damning audits of the agency influenced its decision.

Norman Brown, Chairman of the HAJ, said with concerns over the financial situation, it had no choice but to act. Mr. Brown also said action has been taken to review the governance arrangements and project management practices at the HAJ.
