While giving a breakdown of earnings in his sectoral presentation on Tuesday, the minister said the US$20 contribution per visitor raked in US$59.2 million, or more than J$9 billion last year.

"Our departure tax, US$103.5 million, or J$16 billion; Airport Improvement fees, $4.6 billion; Airline passenger levy, $9.2 billion; Passenger fees and charges, $11 billion; GART, which is the room tax, $3.6 billion - a total direct revenue flow straight into the [Consolidated] Fund of US$345.8 million, or J$53.6 billion," he announced.

Meanwhile, Jamaica earned J$31.8 billion from tourists staying in short stay accommodations like Airbnbs.

Mr. Bartlett said 29 per cent of the visitors to Jamaica stayed in an Airbnb, spending 1.3 million guest nights.
