Tourism Minister Dr. Wykeham McNeil is hoping that Russian airline, Transaero, will resume flights to Jamaica during the upcoming Winter Tourist Season.
"They've cut back because of economic difficulties and the uncertainties. We've kept in touch with them and we are hoping that we will be able to resume flights in Christmas," the Minister told RJR News on Monday.
The airline suspended service between Moscow and Montego Bay on March 28 and the opposition Jamaica Labour Party has been expressing concerns about whether there will be a resumption of service ahead of the winter season.
Although the Tourism Ministry has stated that service should restart by November, Opposition Spokesperson for Tourism, Shahine Robinson, during her recent contribution to the Sectoral Debate in Parliament, again raised concern about the issue.
According to Dr. McNeil, every effort is being made to resume service. He remains cautious, however, conceding that such expectations are "dependent on the world economic market."
