Jobs availability in the US went up in February

The number of jobs available in the United States increased in February.

The Job Openings and Labour Turnover Survey from the US Labour Department showed job openings, which are a measure of labour demand, increased by 8,000 to 8.76 million on the last day of February.

Data for January were revised downward to show 8.75 million unfilled positions instead of the previously reported 8.86 million, with 120,000 more people  hired, driven by retail trade, with 78,000 hires.

There were 1.36 vacancies for every unemployed person in February.

That's down from 1.43 in January.

The decline in the vacancy-to-unemployment ratio reflected a spike in unemployment at the start of the year.
