Jamaica Public Service announced that over 75 per cent of its customers can now be remotely connected using smart meters.
The JPS says the countrywide count stands at 520,000 meters of the customer base, as of the end of January this year.
The $14 billion investment allows customers to open, close or transfer their JPS accounts without going into a Customer Service office.
Additionally, customers can have their service reconnected much faster and without a team physically visiting their premises.
The JPS says since late last year, St. Mary has been the primary focus of the Smart Meter Upgrade Project.
Portland and southern sections of Kingston and St. Andrew should be completed later this year.
