Former West Indies white-ball captain Rovman Powell and former West Indies women's team captain Stafanie Taylor are among seven Jamaicans nominated for awards at the 8th annual CWI/WIPA Awards Gala set for June 22 in Barbados.
In addition to Powell and Taylor, the other Jamaicans nominated for awards are Brandon King, Chinelle Henry, Marquino Mindley, Chadean Nation and Rashada Williams.
Powell and Brandon King are both nominated for the coveted T20 player of the year award, along with the likes of Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph and Nicholas Pooran.
Taylor and Henry are in the running for women's One Day International player of the year, alongside Afy Fletcher, Zaida James, and Hayley Matthews. Henry has also been nominated for T20 player of the year.
Mindley is nominated for Super50 Cup player of the year, while Nation is up for the women's Super50 Cup player of the year accolade. Williams is nominated for Women's T20 Blaze player of the year.
This year's gala carries special significance as it also honors the 50th anniversary of one of West Indies cricket's most iconic moments, the 1975 ICC Cricket World Cup victory under the legendary leadership of Sir Clive Lloyd.
