LIME first in connecting to local internet access point

Telecommunications company LIME says it is the first telecoms company in Jamaica to connect to the local internet exchange point which it says will help to boost the country's economic growth potential.

Jamaica's own Internet Exchange Point (IXP)  was recently implemented, allowing for local internet traffic destined for Jamaica to be handled locally, instead of going overseas before it is sent back to Jamaica.

LIME, in a statement on Tuesday, said, with its connection to the IXP, its customers should see faster connection and improved service reliability.

The company said the change should save the country foreign exchange as well.
