International IT and cybersecurity expert Christopher Reckord says local businesses are not investing enough in cybersecurity and it's to their own detriment.
According to Mr. Reckord, the problem lies in the inability of IT professionals to clearly communicate the urgency of these investments to company CEOs and chief financial officers.
He argues that in order to bring about change, IT experts must begin speaking in simpler, more relatable terms that underscore how critical cybersecurity is to a company's survival.
Mr. Reckord's comments come against the background of a report from FortiGuard, the research arm of global security firm Fortinet, which revealed that Latin America and the Caribbean experienced 200 billion cyber threats last year.
The report says the region is seen as a soft target due to low levels of cybersecurity investment.
