Wilson offers mixed reactions to World Athletics' latest rule changes

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Kayon Raynor

Veteran national coach Maurice Wilson has offered a mixed reaction to World Athletics' newly-approved rule changes on relay substitutions and the sectional format for next year's World Indoor 400m finals.

Wilson has welcomed the decision by World Athletics to reduce the number of substitutions in the men and women's 4x100m and 4x400m relay events to a maximum of two, down from four athletes between rounds and finals.

This was among the "event and rule updates" done at the two-day 239th World Athletics council meeting in Monaco, which ended on Wednesday.

World Athletics has also decided to split the world indoor 400m finals for men and women into two sections at next year's event in Poland.

This means four athletes will contest each section with the medals to be decided based on the three fastest times from the two sections.
