NaRRA to commence operations on November 1

The National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority NaRRA, which is projected to spend $30 billion of the government's $99.7 billion capital budget this fiscal year, says it will commence operations on November 1.

This will be four months before the end of this fiscal year on March 31.

Analysts say this raises questions as to how it will be able to spend the $30 billion programmed for during this short period of time.

The agency says it recently signed a five-year agreement to lease a section of the Digicel headquarters at 14 Ocean Boulevard for US$726,000 or J$116 million per annum.

Major Anthony Anderson, the agency’s CEO, says the building's design and its construction to withstand multiple environmental hazards made it an ideal home for the reconstruction agency, given its mandate.

He also stressed that the selection process included a detailed valuation by the National Land Agency, which assessed the proposed cost against the current market value as well as what other government agencies currently pay for office space.
