Ansord Hewitt, Director General of the OUR

The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) is reporting that mobile and fixed broadband subscriptions increased by 29 per cent and 41 per cent, respectively, from 2019 to 2023.

Addressing a stakeholder briefing, Director General of the OUR Ansord Hewitt said the penetration rate for mobile was 77 per cent and 16 per cent for fixed broadband as at 2023 December.

In the meantime, Mr. Hewitt said efforts are being made to ensure, telecommunication providers improve their service delivery.

"In the second quarter of 2024, the OUR will publish its decision on the outage reporting protocol for telecommunications and measures to improve network resiliency, which were consulted on in 2022/2023," he said.

He noted the frustration of telecommunications customers when there are outages, adding that there needs to be "some predictability in terms of when you lose your service, when are you likely to get it back".
