Pepsi-Cola Jamaica has spent US$30 million to expand its production facilities.

At the opening of the new line on Tuesday, Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the investment and increased employment arising from this is important, as the country continues to reduce unemployment.

"I would like to congratulate the management and staff of Pepsi Jamaica on this remarkable and bold leap forward as this facility increases production capacity by 60%. I am particularly pleased to note that the new production line has created additional jobs, representing a 20% increase in the company's workforce," he noted.

Commercial Director at Pepsi-Cola Jamaica Luz Tejada said the boost in capacity will also help the company to shore up the supply of its beverages in the local market.

"For us, it's a new beginning. Over the year, we've been struggling in terms of supply the local demand of Jamaica with our portfolio and also the international demand that we have. We had many issues trying to supply that demand and now we're going to be able to duplicate our capacity."

She said while some flavours like 'Ginger Beer' were previously sacrificed, all production can now be restored and new innovations can also be brought to the market.

Over the last few months, some customers have found it difficult to acquire some sizes of beverages, including 'Ting'.
