Port Authority of Jamaica rehabilitating Falmouth as its opens Falmouth Pier

The Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) has started the revitalisation of Water Square in Falmouth, Trelawny as the town welcomed its first cruise ship, 'Voyager of the Seas', at the Falmouth Cruise Terminal on Thursday, February 17.

The areas to be affected by the work are Seaboard Street, Reed Lane, Falmouth Street and Lower Market Street, in order to create the same ambience that is provided in the Cruise Ship terminal.

The work is expected to be completed by March 15 a week before the Falmouth Cruise Terminal is scheduled to welcome another mega-cruise ship, 'Oasis of the Seas' on

Tuesday, March 22.

The Port Authority says the newly opened Falmouth Cruise Terminal has met all navigational requirements.

A technical assessment of the state-of-the-art pier following Thursday morning’s arrival of 'Voyager of the Seas', confirmed that the berthing facilities met and surpassed global standards.

The PAJ has invested US$170M in the Falmouth Terminal, which it says is indicative of the government’s continued commitment to the development of Jamaica as the premier cruise destination in the Caribbean.

The project created 400 part time jobs and 40 permanent positions.

“We are elated with the successful completion of this project which now creates an opportunity for Jamaica to receive Oasis of the Seas, the world’s largest and most luxurious cruise ship, and we will do so at a time, when there is a high level of competition in the cruise industry," said Mike Henry, Transport and Works Minister.

"In addition, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to our main partners, the Royal Caribbean Cruise Limited, for forming this strategic partnership," Mr. Henry added.
