Newly confirmed JLP member Craig Oates
Two former members of the People's National Party (PNP) in Hanover have switched allegiance to the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).
Craig Oates, who was rejected as MP candidate for Hanover Eastern after a selection process, and Kenroy Calame, whose interest was in the Cauldwell Division, on Sunday made their choice official during a JLP Hanover Eastern workers meeting and appreciation ceremony.
In an interview with Radio Jamaica News, Mr. Oates said poor treatment from the PNP led them to cross the floor.
"They tried to mar my character and my reputation in a very subtle way and I don't think that is something that I wanted to continue. And most importantly, I spent at least 7-point-odd million dollars that went down the drain, and I did not get a call from the leader of the party, Mark Golding. I did not get a call from the General Secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell, or any other senior members," he complained.
Mr. Oates said he now 'chooses Jamaica' - a slogan of the JLP for the upcoming general election - after seeing the significant infrastructure improvements across the country as well as in Hanover.
