Review points to need for dedicated ministry for manufacturing and export

Dr. William Lawrence, Chairman of the Jamaica Stock Exchange's e-Campus Academic Review Committee, says research indicates that the manufacturing and export sectors deserve to have a dedicated ministry similar to tourism and agriculture.

This in order for the sectors to reach their full potential, as well as to drive foreign exchange earnings, exchange rates stability; employment and economic growth.

Dr Lawrence also stressed that members of the sector must implement more of the research work done by academia and incorporate artificial intelligence to increase innovation; production and productivity.

The manufacturing and export sectors currently account for only US$2 billion or 10% of GDP.
