United Oil and Gas encouraged by first stage of offshore Jamaica survey

United Oil & Gas says it has completed the first stage of a major offshore survey programme on its Walton-Morant licence in Jamaica, marking a key milestone in its exploration work.

The company announced that the multibeam echosounder survey collected high-quality seabed data across nearly 1,200 kilometres of priority areas offshore.

The information will be used to guide the next phases of exploration for oil, including heat-flow testing and targeted seabed sampling.

Following completion of the first phase, the survey vessel returned to Kingston for equipment upgrades and has already resumed offshore operations.

Chief Executive Brian Larkin said the results provided a strong technical foundation and will help reduce exploration risk as the company advances the project.

The overall programme is aimed at confirming evidence of oil in commercial quantities.
