Joanna Banks, Executive Vice President at Sagicor, responsible for Strategy and Business Development
By Javaughn Keyes

Sagicor Group has broken ground for an $8.4 billion development in Portmore, St. Catherine.

Joanna Banks, Executive Vice President at Sagicor, responsible for Strategy and Business Development, says the Portmore Promenade will provide a multiplicity of commercial space in the Bernard Lodge area.

"We're introducing approximately 300,000 square feet of commercial space, creating a vibrant ecosystem that not only encourages business activity but also stimulates local economic growth. We also plan to introduce a diverse mix of commercial offerings from retail and dining to professional services designed to meet the dynamic needs of our community with convenience and variety," she said.

In addition to a gas station, bank and medical centre, a business process outsourcing (BPO) facility will be built.

Green spaces and the use of renewable energy will also be integrated.

The project is expected to generate more than 1,500 jobs.
