Six new hotels, housing for hotel workers to be built in 2025/26

The government says construction on six new hotels comprising a total of 5,600 rooms and 1,000 housing solutions for hotel workers will begin during the next fiscal year.

This was highlighted in the Throne Speech delivered Thursday by Custos of Kingston Steadman Fuller during the ceremonial opening of Parliament.

Mr. Fuller says these projects will lead to US$2.5 billion in foreign direct investment inflows and the creation of 10,000 new jobs in the tourism sector.

Meanwhile, the Custos also provided an update on the number of workers enrolled in the government's tourism workers pension scheme.

Mr. Fuller said the figure stands at 10,000 with the scheme now valued at $4 billion.

Jamaica welcomed 4.1 million visitors last year, raking in gross earnings of  US$4.3 billion.
