More money was spent on the importation of "Fuel and Lubricants" in the first three months of 2024.
The Statistical Institute of Jamaica says the value of goods coming into the country for this group, went up by 2.2 per cent, valued at US$544.4 million.
This was due to increased spending on 'Crude Oil' and 'Motor Spirit'.
Imports of "Consumer Goods" rose by 1.2 per cent to US$472.8 million.
In the comparative period ended March 2023, a total of US$467.3 million was spent to bring in these goods.
This year, the spend was mainly influenced by a 5 per cent increase in 'Non-Durable Goods' imports.
The group 'Durable Goods' also saw a 7.1 per cent rise.
STATIN says spending in the group "Capital Goods (excluding Motor Cars)" grew by 7.6 per cent, totaling US$190.8 million.
"Transport Equipment" imports rose by 8 per cent, coming in at US$149.4 million.

GDP fell in 'Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repairs, Installation of Machinery and Equipment
In the meantime, gross domestic product (GDP) in the group 'Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repairs, Installation of Machinery and Equipment' fell in the first quarter.
STATIN says output in the group fell by 2.2 per cent for the three months ended March.
This was mainly due to lower output levels in the Construction and Manufacturing industries.
