The Jamaican Economy Panel yesterday published its nineteenth survey on Enhancing Employment Opportunities for Jamaica's Youth.
JEP panelists commended the reduction in youth unemployment and put forward recommendations for its continued decline.
They noted that providing sufficient labour market opportunities, particularly for youth, 15 to 24 years, continues to be a challenge for Jamaica.
Official statistics over the past decade show that the average overall unemployment rate has been in double digits, which for young people has been much higher at 27 percent.
The average has been decreasing, but unemployment remains higher for youth as well as for women when compared to men.
In 2023, Jamaica boasted significant reductions in overall and youth unemployment.
