USF halts Technology Advancement Programme

The Universal Service Fund says it has halted  the Technology Advancement Programme after spending $450 million to train 1700 young people in core skills, computer repairs, computer administration and digitisation.

Chief executive officer Charlton McFarlane says the move is to facilitate a review to see how effective the programme has been after training three cohorts.

He says this value for money evaluation is vital, given the slowdown in the flow of money to the Fund which is financed by a levy on inbound telephone calls.
