Swoop to officially merge into WestJet later this year

Canada-based ultra-low-cost airline Swoop will officially merge into the services of WestJet later this year.

WestJet and pilots at Swoop ratified a new four-year agreement for pay hikes and job security on Friday.

As negotiated in the agreement, WestJet said it will begin integrating the ultra-low-cost airline into its mainline operations by the end of October.

The airline says this will enhance its ability to serve a broader spectrum of guests.

An airline official says each of the 180 aircraft in the fleet will offer ultra-affordable travel options instead of only 16 aircraft serving the ultra-low-cost market.

Swoop will operate its existing network through the end of its published schedule on October 28, and employees will move to WestJet.

The agreement is in effect from January 1, 2023, up to December 31, 2026.
