Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is collecting approximately 80 per cent of its revenue through online platforms.
Commissioner General Ainsley Powell in making the disclosure said the development is welcomed, as it has significantly reduced the number of business customers visiting the TAJ’s offices to complete transactions such as the filing of income tax returns.
He noted that TAJ employees have worked up until 2 a.m. to cash payments received to meet the March 15 deadline, which is the due date for income tax filings, adding that this has been particularly challenging.
He added that during these times, taxpayers would be at tax offices as late as 10 p.m. filing returns and submitting payments to meet the deadline.
