Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says it will begin issuing new electronic motor vehicle registration certificates on July 21, in line with the recently amended Road Traffic Act 2025.
As a result, physical copies of registration certificates and stickers will no longer be issued.
TAJ's Director of Corporate Communications, Merris Haughton, says the new electronic certificates will be valid for up to two years - a major change from the previous six-month period.
Motorists will have the option of choosing between one-year and two-year validity.
Additionally, all motorists will now be required to have a valid email address in order to register or renew their motor vehicle licence, whether the transaction is done online or at a tax office.
