By Kimone Witter

A 15-year-old boy drowned in a river in Borobridge, St. Ann on Tuesday.

He has been identified as Matthew Fung of the community, and student of Alston High School.

It's reported that about 5:30 p.m., the teenager was fishing with his father and a friend behind the old bakery, when he fell from a raft into the water.

Attempts made to rescue him were unsuccessful.

The police said based on observations, the river had overflowed its bank because of the passage of Hurricane Beryl and was still considered dangerous.

They are cautioning people to stay away from water bodies at this time.
