Late-year surge in lab-confirmed cases of Influenza A and COVID-19 in St. Vincent & The Grenadines

The Ministry of Health in Saint Vincent & The Grenadines has issued an advisory following a late-year surge in lab-confirmed cases of both Influenza A and COVID-19 across the country.

According to surveillance figures released by the ministry on Monday, infections multiplied rapidly throughout September and October, triggering heightened vigilance across hospitals, clinics, and communities.

Official health surveillance data highlight a steep upward trajectory over the late summer and early autumn months.

From a single reported case in August, laboratory-confirmed Influenza A infections jumped to 47 cases in September and reached 86 cases in October of 149 cases for the year so far.

Confirmed COVID-19 cases followed a similar sharp rise, climbing from four cases in August to 16 in September and 19 in October.

Health authorities confirmed one death attributed to Influenza A of a patient who had an underlying medical history of diabetes and hypertension.
