205 Jamaicans receive national honours

Two hundred and five Jamaicans were today recognised for their contribution to nation building at the National Honours and Awards Presentation and Investiture Ceremony. 
 
Governor General Sir Patrick Allen presented the insignias at King's House. 
 
Five people were conferred with membership in the Order of Jamaica, including Marcia Griffiths, for her contribution to Reggae music locally and internationally, and politician Audley Shaw for his contribution to political administration in Jamaica.
 
Twenty-seven people were conferred with membership in the Order of Distinction Commander Class. Thirty-six were conferred with membership in the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer, including veteran journalists Earl Moxam and Arthur Hall, trade unionist O'Neil Grant and musicians Wayne Mitchell and Tarrus Riley. 
 
The Badge of Honour for Gallantry was posthumously presented to firefighter Lorenzo Douse, who died on November 30 last year after he was struck by a motor vehicle while on duty. 
 
Some 28 civilians received the Badge of Honour for Meritorious Service, while 29 others were awarded the Badge of Honour for Long and Faithful Service in areas such as community development, community service, education, nursing, dentistry, and the public service.
 
In addition, members of the uniformed groups representing the Jamaica Defence Force, Jamaica Constabulary Force, Department of Correctional Services on Jamaica Fire Brigade were presented with the Medal of Honour for Meritorious Service.
