Agreement reached on JISCO-Alpart redundancy plan

A resolution has reportedly been achieved in relation to in the dispute over pending job cuts at JISC-Alpart in Nain, St. Elizabeth.

During another meeting Tuesday the company and trade unions representing workers at the bauxite-alumina plant workers reached an agreement on the upcoming redundancy exercise.

Eight hundred positions are slated to be cut; however, the company and unions agreed that up to 300 of  the workers will be rehired for the upgrading of  the plant.

Granville Valentine, General-Secretary of the National Workers Union, said the employees have endorsed the arrangement.
