The last set of female juveniles was removed from the Horizon Adult Remand Centre on Friday.
Peter Bunting, National Security Ministry made the disclosure on Friday while touring correctional facilities in the southern parishes of St Elizabeth and Manchester.
During his Sectoral Debate presentation last month, Bunting committed to having the five remaining juveniles in the facility removed, noting the reduction in the number of female wards at the facility from 30 in June 2012.
Figures from the Ministry of National Security indicate that the number of female juveniles at Fort Augusta has been reduced to 39, down from 44. The National Security Minister pledged that no more juveniles will be sent to the Horizon facility in the future.
Meanwhile, contractors have been selected and renovation work has begun at the South Camp Road facility, to accommodate the remaining juveniles who are at Fort Augusta.
Human rights groups have resisted the placing of juveniles at South Camp Road which is also shared by adults. They argue that although they will be separated, the facilities at the institution are not appropriate for juveniles.
