A Jamaican man is among more than two dozen people described by the United States Department of Homeland Security as violent, high-threat illegal alien criminals who have been sent to a detention centre in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
In a press release published on its website on Tuesday, the department named Eric Gresford Miller among 26 detainees sent to the facility, stating that they have committed heinous crimes.
It described the detainees as "dangerous illegal aliens" who have been convicted.
It said an immigration judge has ordered their removal from the US.
Miller is listed as having been convicted of aggravated assault with a gun. No further details are provided about him or his case.
It was noted that in January, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order expanding the Migrant Operations Center at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay to full capacity.
The directive instructed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to provide additional space for high priority criminal aliens legally present in the United States.
