Fifty-three persons including the alleged new leader of
the "Rat Bat Gang" are still in police custody following their
detention during a massive raid off Spanish
Town Road on Thursday.
A police source told RJR News that the detainees were still being processed and will be interrogated on Friday.
The new leader of the "Rat Bat Gang", whose name is being withheld, is said to have taken over the group following the death of its former leader, "Machine Man", who was killed by the police in a shoot-out last week.
An illegal D.V.D recording studio with computers and other equipment used in the pirating of D.V.Ds were seized during Thursday's operation.
Alleged "Joe Benbow Gang" leader and members in court
And the alleged leader of the Jones Town based "Joe Benbow Gang", Joseph "Benbow" Barrett is among four persons scheduled to face the Half Way Tree Criminal Court on Friday.
They are charged with importing illegal guns and ammunition into the island.
Mr. Barrett and his co-accused were charged on Wednesday following investigations into the seizure of four firearms and more than 20 rounds of ammunition at Customs.
They were charged after the police intercepted a package containing four nine-millimetre pistols and 26 rounds of ammunition at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston on October 17.
The other accused are Marsha Johnson, 31, a shop-keeper of Benbow Street; Trudy Ann Warren, 24, a cosmetologist of South Anderson Crescent in Kingston and Wayne Johnson, 35, a taxi operator also of Benbow Street.
Mr. Barrett has also been charged with breaching the conditions of his bail as he failed to remain at home while under house arrest.
